Non-Direct Patient Care Rotations

Goals, Objectives and Assessment Tools and Resources

The drug distribution, medication management, management, clinical leadership, academic detailing, critical appraisal and antimicrobial stewardship rotations will each use separate ITARs to assess the resident.  The criteria used to assess the resident have been taken directly from the rotation objectives for each rotation.  These rotation objectives are based on the relevant Residency Program Competencies listed in the Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board Accreditation Standards for Pharmacy (Year 1) Residencies.

Rationale for Assessment Criteria

The purpose of the ITAR (In-Training Assessment of Resident) is to assess the resident’s ability at meeting the objectives of the rotation.  As such, the criteria that will be used to assess the resident for each rotation have been taken directly from the rotation objectives.  These rotation objectives, in most cases, have been taken directly from the Residency Program Competencies listed in the Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board Accreditation Standards.  For each assessment, the preceptor will assess the resident as to whether they met the assessment criteria according to the following scale, which criteria for each outlined in the assessment form:

  • “Below Expected Level of Performance” or
  • “Meets Expected Level of Performance” or
  • “Beyond Expected Level of Performance”
